Democracy is the backbone to creating a harmonious community. It’s our expectation that local governments follow this rule.

Our mission is to continue to advocate for off-leash spaces for dogs in the Capital Regional District, support responsible dog ownership and park management, and ensure good governance best practices are the basis for decisions and policy development.

    TO ALL 2026 Saanich Candidates

    The following is what CRD DOGG SOCIETY is asking from candidates:

    The Needed Changes in Saanich

    1. Fiscal operational pause: Freeze the remaining unspent PPP surplus allocations -approximately $945,000.

    2. Natural Trails: create fair and balanced leash optional under control, on leash and ‘dog free’ users in PKOLS and other natural parks like Cuthbert Holmes, Colquitz River and Mt Tolmie.

    3. Equitable shared use hours and park re-allocation: Remove narrow, morning leash-optional cutoffs, return beach accesses outside of the MBS and transition some underutilized parks over 1 hectare into shared access.

    4. Education over regulation: Redirect enforcement dollars to positive compliance working with a range of non-profit groups to help with education and clear signage.

    5. Greater Community involvement: Ensure that the access and uses of parks, trails and beaches reflect the needs of those who live near and regularly use them.

    6. Create Willing Compliance: reduce the need for enforcement by restoring fair and reasonable access to leash optional trails, beaches and parks while respecting the need for some areas of ecological protection, on leash requirements and spaces where dogs are not welcome.
